![]() ![]() It is entertaining, engaging, and accessible by all levels of gamers, I couldn’t recommend it enough. I hope to see a bit more updates in possibly customized cities, player-made levels, or reward systems, but the game stands very tall on its own as it is now. Mechanics In Mini Motorways the action is shown in top-down view. This title was developed by the independent studio Dinosaur Polo Club from New Zealands Wellington the team is famous for its warmly received Mini Metro. Mini Motorways is one of those games that I’ll hop on solely because I want to enjoy the experience, but then lose the next few days and a dozen hours on wanting to play over and over again while trying to get better and better scores. Mini Motorways is a game combining strategy, puzzle and simulation game elements. If Mini Motorways added some different shaped cars, patterns on buildings, or custom color schemes as rewards for playing a lot or playing very well, there could be an even bigger reason for coming back. Lastly, the lack of rewards can make the game’s lifespan a little shorter. This has only happened to me a couple of times, but it does make the round feel a bit unfair. The game is meant to eventually overwhelm you naturally, but once in a great while, the game seems to forget you need stoplights or something else. Sometimes, I’ll be playing through a map and never get enough highways or other things that I feel like I need. The only issues with this game are its lack of rewards and the bad luck that rarely happens. As of now, there are no rewards for winning those challenges (that’s honestly fine because of the general leader board), but some kind of badge next to your name would look cool on the leaderboards showing how often you win. But the game does exactly what each arcade game should do have a weekly and daily challenge. These are pretty fun and offer a pretty large amount of challenge and hours of content. Each city has score goals, leader boards, and challenges. ![]() The game comes with a series of cities to build your roads on. There is a lot of nuance to these road systems, and it is amazing how well the game slowly builds from quaint and calm to chaotic and complex. ![]() These can help the flow of traffic a lot if used well. As time goes on also, players will be given resources to use throughout the city like bypasses, bridges, stoplights, and more. As the game goes on, more stores will be added, different color houses will need to be connected to different colored stores and then things become a desperate game of optimization. Players will connect those with roads that get filled with cars by going back and forth between the houses and stores. Each game starts out with just one store and a few houses of the same color. The real fun of the game comes from the chaos that grows after you have to make streets, highways, stoplights, circles, and more to connect an infinitely growing city. The Endless & Expert update is a free update available for the Mini Motorways base game, available now on Apple Arcade, Nintendo Switch, and on PC and Mac via Steam. As I mentioned above, the premise of the game is easy to grasp: connect places so cars can go to and come back from their destinations. This game mode comes with its own leaderboards for each of the game’s 15 maps so players can aim for the satisfaction of beating a new personal best. This game mode provides a new set of obstacles and rules: road layouts and upgrades become permanent after a short time and a new upgrade system places even greater importance on week-to-week planning. For those who have always wanted a chance to continue building the city that could have been, or to simply relax and vibe to the immersive soundscape artist Disasterpeace has crafted for this game, now is your chance.Īnd for players who fancy themselves, skilled city planners, Mini Motorways now offers its own version of a deeper strategy experience with Expert Mode. ![]() The city grows at the player’s speed, and as efficiency milestones are achieved, the player can introduce road upgrades such as roundabouts, highways, and traffic lights. In Endless Mode, players can draw the roads that drive a growing city, much as in Mini Motorways’ classic gameplay mode, but without the usual pressure of Game Over. As time passes, the city will expand, placing increased demand on its roads and forcing players to adapt and keep up with a growing population. In Mini Motorways, the player takes the role of a road designer, drawing roads between houses and destinations in vibrant multicolored cities inspired by real-world locations. With the release of their Endless & Expert update, the developers take inspiration from their first hit Mini Metro to deliver two all-new experiences for players longing for a gameplay twist that’s either more relaxing or seriously challenging. Fans of Dinosaur Polo Club’s traffic simulator Mini Motorways have two new game modes to test drive this week in the game’s biggest update since launch. ![]()
